One-off sessions will be aimed at developing a personalised short-term and long-term strategy to help you better manage stress in your life and alleviate its harmful effects.
The course consists of 8 fortnightly sessions, each lasting about an hour.
Each session focuses on one particular aspect of stress and stress management. Areas covered include:
- the nature of stress
- the effects of stress on your body
- muscular tension
- how relaxation training works
- working with the breath
- the nervous system
- challenging negative thinking habits
- examining your lifestyle
You will be given factual information about stress, its causes and effects. There are a number of questionnaires for you to fill in to help you look at your life in an objective way, and to be used for discussion and reflection. You will practice a guided relaxation exercise at each session.
Anything discussed during a one-to-one session will remain confidential. It is not necessary for you to share your personal problems if you do not wish to.
