What is a website?
A website is a collection of files and folders which are stored on a Server. A Server computer is on-line and therefore accessible 24 hours a day.
A website on the internet can be viewed by anyone anywhere in the world who has a computer linked to the internet. The computer programme needed to view websites is called a browser.
The webmaster is the person who looks after and makes any changes to your website.
How does the webmaster make changes?
As well as your website being stored on a Server, your webmaster will also have a second copy stored on his/her computer. When you want to make changes to your website, your webmaster will change his/her copy and then upload it to the Server computer. The webmaster's copy then overwrites the copy on the Server and this becomes the new version available for the world to see.
