MONTHLY Q&A SESSIONS

Member perspectives

“My contact with other yoga teachers at yoga days etc, has been less than it used to be, so the Q&A meetings are really useful to stay connected.”

Leanne

“Andrea is professional and thorough, and has an authentic teacher connection. She maintains a clear structure at the Q&A sessions so that everyone feels comfortable to contribute if they want to. ”

Val

“There's a value in questioning what you do in your practice. The discussions and self-reflection that follows keeps my teaching fresh and interesting.”

Vivien

“I like that we can have different conversations at different meetings on different days. We sometimes talk about practical aspects and at other times more personal and emotional things, which is great because it addresses the breadth of the experience of being a yoga teacher.”

Tim

“Yoga teaching is such a solitary pursuit. I'm trying to meet up with other teachers in person more, but sometimes you can't - life's busy. I think it's important to stay connected, and I've found these meetings great and not too time-consuming.”

Sue

“It gave me a feeling of personal consolidation of my own teaching and I appreciated the support from others. This is the first one I've been to and I will come along again. Thank you.”

Joan

“It gives you a chance to get to know what other yoga teachers are practising. I liked having the breakout rooms too, which was very nice. I felt more motivated afterwards and it gave me useful ideas.”

Julie

“Listening to other teachers talking about their interests, plans for the future and concerns is useful, as well as knowing that we are all trying to find our way of teaching and sharing and navigating the different issues the world throws at us.”

Tracy

“Even if you only get one snippet of information from another teacher in the community, or one new idea that you can implement, that feels really supportive.”

Amanda

Continuing Professional Development

Annual CPD is required by most yoga teacher accrediting organisations, including BWY and YA

Yoga Teaching & Learning community Q&A sessions provide CPD for yoga teachers. Check your organisation's requirements for CPD.

Our Q&A sessions are facilitated by Andrea Newman who has been leading BWY teacher training and CPD since 2003.

Our meetings are available monthly. If you attend just once a quarter, this amounts to 4 hours of CPD (or 6 hours if you stay for the additional half hour of further discussions).

Q&A Facilitator

Andrea Newman

Senior tutor

Andrea says: "I see myself as a sensitive and geeky introvert and teacher! I love creating and holding a space for people to come into to explore themselves through yoga. I find it a joy and a privilege to see people's courage and determination as they face challenges in life, to heal and evolve." Andrea has been teaching yoga since 1994 and training yoga teachers with the British Wheel of Yoga since 2003. As a Certified Advanced Rolfer with a degree in biochemistry, Andrea continues to study anatomy, spirituality and the body-mind connection. She brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to her teaching and is committed to providing opportunities for yoga teachers and students to learn and grow.

  • Who can come?

These Q&A meetings are for qualified yoga teachers, whether or not you are currently teaching. Yoga teacher training students are welcome once you have started teaching public classes.

  • Do I have to speak?

No, it's fine simply to listen in. You can type into the text chat if you like and go into a breakout room to chat with one or two others. These are great, but optional too if you're not feeling 100%.

  • What do you discuss?

Everything! Previous topics have included: marketing, anatomy of asana, ailments, teaching in gyms, low confidence, class management, online vs in-person, pricing, teaching pranayama.

Q&A format

"Questions open a door to self-enquiry and discussion. Answers are stepping stones."

Bring a question to a Q&A hour to begin a discussion with Andrea. Post comments and chat in breakout rooms. A mix of Saturday and Friday meetings (see newsletter or the community hub for forthcoming dates).
