Bhujangasana (cobra pose)

Date: Friday TBA

Time: 1pm-3.30pm

Do you ever feel unsure about how to apply your anatomy knowledge to what you see in your students?

Wondering how to adapt your teaching cues to meet diverse needs without losing the essence of a pose?

You’re not alone - and this series of workshops is here to help.

What you’ll gain:

  • Clarity in biomechanics: Understand the mechanics of a specific yoga pose, from entering and holding to exiting, and how these affect the body.

  • Confidence in adaptation: Learn practical ways to modify the pose for injuries, limitations, or individual needs, all while preserving its integrity.

  • Teaching tools you can use: Clarify your cues so you can guide your students safely towards anatomical integrity.

  • A holistic approach: Go beyond the physical - integrate functional anatomy with the energetic, experiential and  philosophical aspects of yoga.

  • Your questions answered: Ask questions based on your own experience and observations in class. Post key questions in advance in the online discussion board.

  • Video access: A video recording is available online for 3 months after the workshop for you to review or if you missed the workshop.

Anatomy of a yoga pose

This practical workshop is based on:

  • Applied anatomy - using anatomical understanding to inform yoga practice and teaching for safety and anatomical integrity

  • Functional anatomy - what is happening in the joints, muscles and nervous system when we move the body into and out of a pose

  • Variational anatomy - the differences between the bodies and experiences of individuals

It will be an intensive interactive workshop, including yoga asana practice, anatomy teaching and discussion.

Implications of different versions of poses will be looked at, and students with different body types considered.

This is an intermediate level workshop. Some experience of teaching yoga and a basic familiarity with anatomical terms is required.
