PRACTICAL APPLIED ANATOMY WORKSHOPS FOR YOGA TEACHERS ONLINE

Interpreting anatomy in yoga

Sat 27 June 2026, 10am-1pm

A live CPD workshop for yoga teachers who know some anatomy but want more understanding of how to apply it in real teaching situations. In this first of two online workshops, we explore how joints, muscles, fascia and biomechanics influence movement - what to look for and how to interpret the variability you see in your students' bodies.

When students move differently

know what to notice - and how to respond

Perhaps a student looks uncomfortable or misaligned in parsvakonasna (side angle pose), while everyone else seems fine.

What do you see in the picture below?

When something looks a little off - what is going on anatomically?

Are you seeing natural variation - or would a student benefit from more support or coaching?

How could you help one student without neglecting the rest of the class?

If questions like these feel familiar, this workshop is for you.

Together, we’ll explore how understanding functional anatomy can help you make sense of what you’re actually seeing in class, so you can make more skilful teaching decisions, support safer movement and work more effectively with different bodies.

You already know more anatomy than you think

Most yoga teacher training includes anatomy - but many teachers go on to discover that understanding anatomy in theory is very different from applying it in a mixed-ability class.

These two workshops are designed to help bridge that gap.

We’ll explore how joints, muscles, fascia, gravity and biomechanics influence movement, and how this understanding can help you make clearer, more confident teaching decisions in real classes.

These two workshops build on the approach I use in my Essential Anatomy & Physiology for Yoga Teaching online course. This course is approved by the British Wheel of Yoga and some of you may have used as a prerequisite for your teacher training programme. It is also suitable for practising yoga teachers to broaden your understanding of holistic anatomy and how the body works.

What you'll gain

By the end of the workshop you'll have more clarity about:

  • How joints, muscles, fascia and biomechanics influence movement in yoga

  • Why different students experience the same pose differently

  • Making sense of what you see in students in terms of body shape, limitations, and habitual movement patterns

  • How to make more supportive, strategic and anatomy-informed teaching decisions in class

Is this workshop for me?

This workshop may be especially helpful if you:

  • Know some anatomy but are not always sure how to apply it in your teaching

  • Sometimes wonder how much to adapt, refine, reassure or leave alone

  • Feel uncertain about what creates more anatomical integrity and stability in movement

  • Have general questions or specific questions about your students

  • If you have completed the Essential Anatomy & Physiology for Yoga Teaching online course, this workshop will help you bridge the gap between theory learnt there and practical teaching

How we’ll work

  • Live online via Zoom
  • 10:00–1:00 (UK time) with short break
  • Guided movement exploration
  • Real teaching examples and discussion
  • Time for questions
  • Replay available until the end of July
  • Written summary of workshop content
  • 3 hours CPD
